How The Girls Really Feel About Deep Snow

Emma started to follow the Lady who was on her snowshoes.

Nope, I'm going back

Hailey after Lady called her over . . . . she really wanted to go back to the house.

Sparks

Around Blogville we have seen people posting Monday Sparks. Since the only mischief we have had is not visiting blogs like we should and working too much, we thought we join in.

I work with a family who lives in the Cayman Islands. Last week I was suppose to have a video conference with them, but they asked if they could re-schedule it because they had the opportunity to go and release sea turtles. I said, go, have fun, send me pictures.

This is not my client, but this is the sea turtle he names Michelangelo (he is 9 and has found the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles) that he did get to release.

Winds murmured through the tall trees
Inside is cozy and dry

Tracking - by Lee

By the time you read this, our snow may be all gone. They are forecasting a lot of rain at the start of this week. Because of this, Lady thought it would be a great time to go out and play in the snow. We haven't done much of that because it has been too cold or too icy.

Sunday was a beautiful winter day, so off we went.

I haven't talked much about it, but I have been doing a lot of off leash training this winter. I don't really like sinking in the deep snow and can't get the speed, so my peeps have been trusting me more.

I did an ok job on Sunday, until I found evil Red John Squirrel's tracks.

Then I went into the bush, that is still our property. Lady told me to wait, and I did. She put me on leash and brought me back to the yard.

Red John may have escaped this time, but someday I will get him (or her, we don't know the gender).

Tasty Tuesday - Belated Pancake Day

Lady was away last week so we didn't get to do Pancake Tuesday. Never fear, our usual pancake Sunday happened and we got an extra special treat . . . . .the Man made one pancake just for us! (Note: Lady was very mad because she thinks Man does not make her enough pancakes. She did not think it was appropriate for us to suggest some of that extra weight she has been complaining about may be due to things like eating her body weight in pancakes).

The pancake, with real maple syrup.

The Man cut it up, something about us not chewing it if he didn't.

Phod waited patiently.

So did Lee.

Emma wanted to know if she could help and speed the process up!

Finally, he put the last touches on it.

Time to dig in! Emma ate hers so quickly, Lady didn't capture it.

Then when our peeps were done, we got to lick their plates. It was a pawsome Sunday snack!

Mischief Monday - Catching Up by Lee

I am so angry at her, I can't look

Dear Blogville,

I have missed you so. We have been away for far too long and I blame it all on the Lady. She is this weeks mischief maker.

She tried to pull the work is very busy and I have to abandon you for ever go out of town on a work trip for a few days and something has to give excuse. At first, I thought she should be giving up her exercise, but the Phod reminded me that we want Lady to stay healthy so she can play with us and walk us. Then I thought she should give up sleep, but then I remembered how grumpy she is when she doesn't sleep. No one wants to see that.  Then I thought she should just give up work, but then Man explained how if Lady doesn't work, we can't buy extra treats. I thought his working should be enough, but he said they both need to work so we can have the life now and in the future that we want. He also said, Lady has a very important job helping people. I think she should focus more on helping me.

In the end, I had to accept that she couldn't write wonderful stories about me, but at least she did let me visit my pals as much as possible.

We survived our time without her. The Man did a good job at taking care of us. Even Emma adjusted ok. I was very excited when Lady returned  Thursday night, I couldn't stop jumping for joy.

We are back now and Lady has promised to try and post more and visit you all as much as possible. She wants people to know that the Ontario Government has created a new Autism Program, which means she has a lot of new paperwork to sort out for this in the next few months as some of her clients transition to the new program. She also wants you all to know she is always with you in spirit and sometimes does sneaky things like read without commenting, and she knows you will all understand if she can't visit every day.

I am willing to forgive Lady for now, but she is on probation.

We have some adventures to share!

your friend, Hailey Bug aka Lee

Thankful Thursday - by Phod

Today I am thankful for all my toys. I am thankful for Emma for dragging them all out.

I am also thankful for all of you! Lady is sorry for not visiting, work is insane! We should be able to catch up over the weekend!

Editor's note: This isn't all the toys, the Lady may have hid an equal number of toys because Hurricane Emma insists on having them all out. The two resident dogs are fine with only a few.

Did You Hear The News? by Phod

Hey pals,

Did you hear the good news?

Miss Maizie said she was looking for someone to go to the Blogville Valentine's trip to Paris (hosted by Rosy Sassypants), and I said I was available and am thrilled she agreed to be my date. You can see she is very cute.

I know we will have a bon moment! (great time in French - I do live in la belle province so know a little French).

Mischief Monday - A Winter Storm

A few weeks ago we had a a freezing rain storm. Hailey did not like the sound of the ice hitting the roof and the windows. She was visibly upset.  While I was working out, she hid between the treadmill and the weight bench. She rarely even comes to this part of the house if/when I am working out.  But other than hiding and wanting love, there was no distraction and she stayed fairly calm. She does think the weather is a mischief maker.

As I prepare this post for tomorrow, we are getting different winter precipitation. It is snowing - a lot. They expect about 15-20 cm/6-7 inches of the white stuff.  Fortunately this is happening on a Sunday when we can just stay inside!

Selfie Sunday - Emma

Emma continues to do pretty well here. She may have had one accident, which isn't bad. She isn't always demand love and attention. She is staying in the yard and listening.

Our biggest challenging is figuring out which of the treats Uncle Chris sent (he seriously brought like a lifetime supply) upset her stomach and which don't!

I will say, having 3 is a bit much at times! The Man is so glad to hear that because I always ask for another dog. That asking is done. I will ask for a cat instead now!

Happy Groundhog Day!

Phod: Do you ever feel like it is Groundhog Day? It is like you are just waiting for the same thing over and over again?  Like waiting for Lady to throw the ball.

A question from Hailey:  Will groundhog be on the menu tonight?
Lady:  No
Hailey: If you get pancakes on Pancake Tuesday, you really should get groundhog on Groundhog Day. Just saying.
Lady: A good point but still no!

May winter's end be coming sooner rather than later!

The Mystery of the Icer - By The Lady

On Friday January 19th, Hailey, Phod and I went for a very early (like 5 am) morning walk. (Emma finds it too cold so she cuddles in bed with the Man on our early morning walks).  It was dark, but not too cold. It was a fine walk. On the weekend we didn't walk because I was resting my legs (this 30 day yoga challenge is causing me some pain), but we had lots of play time outside and chase and fetch. It is important to note, I only wore my shoes on the weekend.

The remaining icer
On Monday January 22nd, I went to put my boots on to take the dogs for a walk and noticed one of my icers was missing. (Note: An icer is a thing you put on your boot to give you traction. I had a pair of Lee Valley ones for 5 years, I had re-studded them last winter. There are many brands of this type of thing). I looked around the front entryway but it was no where to be seen. I thought maybe one of the dogs had grabbed it and moved it. I decided we would walk without it and I could look some more when I got home.

It wasn't too icy so the walk wasn't too bad, but I did slip a few times because my boots are warm, but have no grip. I came home and we searched for the icer, but could not find it. I guess somehow it came off on the walk Friday and I didn't notice. This seems odd to me because they do add some weight to my boot and I wouldn't have been walking evenly. I guess I was not awake enough to notice.

Tuesday we had a lot of freezing rain. It left our world covered in ice. Tuesday I ordered a new pair of icer type products because I realized I couldn't safely walk the dogs without them. I bought a different type, Snotek, because they were half the price. Thought that made them worth a try. Because I didn't want to pay the ridiculous postage to get them rushed (it was going to double the price of the product), we had to wait a few days. On Friday my new ones showed up.
This picture was taken on Sunday - 5 days after the rain. You can see how icy our world remained and why it  could be very dangerous to try and walk the dogs without proper footwear.

Saturday I got them on my boots and went for a short walk with Lee to try them out. They are lighter which is nice and they seem to have a good grip. When walking on a surface to the ice (like the garage), I notice how the studs sit differently then my old ones, but on the ice I haven't noticed a difference.

You can see the rubber of the new Snotek on the toe of my boot

Here you can see the bottom of it.

I have not thrown out my remaining icer in case the other one mysteriously shows up! Maybe I will find it in a ditch in the spring. Until then we will use these and see if they allow us to have safe winter walks!
