Remember Me Thursday

Our friend's at Barking from the Bayou told us about a special remembrance that is happening today. Today is Remember Me Thursday. To learn a lot more go to their site here: https://remembermethursday.org

Today we are asking everyone who reads our blog to take a minute to remember all the animals who are in shelters waiting for homes and to remember the 2.7 million who did not live to find a home last year.

We were both lucky. We were found by loving rescues who kept us safe and warm and loved until we found our forever home. We will think of those who were not as lucky today. We also ask our readers to consider rescuing a shelter animal or finding other ways to help those waiting for homes.

Thank you for remembering with us.

Travel Tuesday - The Ocean

In what feels like a lifetime ago but it was only a month, the Man and the Lady headed to Oregon for min-BAR. After a few days in Portland, they headed to an Air B and B in Rockaway Beach. Here are some of the Lady's favourite ocean and beach pictures from the area.

The Twin Rocks at Rockaway Beach

One of many dead crabs she saw

Rocks at a beach south of Rockaway

Looking up a cliff

The butterfly shell that made Lady think of Princess Leah

The Lighthouse at Cape Meares

Oregon's most famous rock, the Haystack at Cannon Beach

Lady enjoyed watching all the kites

The tide was out

That is Murphy and Stanley's people out for a run and trying to cross without getting their feet wet!

Mischief Monday - Taking Care of a Blanket

This is one of the blankets we originally got for trips to the kennel. During the first trip, a mad Hailey started taking it apart. It now lives in my office as a spot for the pups to rest while I am working. Last week, during a work at home day I heard the faint sound of 'rip' and looked over to see my girl taking more stuffing out. I let her, it makes her happy. This blanket was from a thrift shop and cost less than $10. It is hers. Eventually she will have taken all the stuffing and we will throw it out and get a new one!

Traveling Tuesday on a Thursday - Oregon Zoo

While I don't want this post to become a debate about zoos, I wanted to state that I have some personal concerns about them. While I LOVE animals and the experience of talking to keepers to learn more, seeing them up close etc. etc., I don't love the idea of them. In an ideal world they would not exist. I hope my niece and nephew's generation finds a way for us to save the animals in the wild and live with them peacefully so we don't need zoos.

Now I will step off my soapbox and share some memories from he Oregon Zoo (which the Man picked as an activity).

First, let me say this is a beautiful, spotlessly clean facility. The keepers we spoke to/heard speak clearly had the animals welfare as their number one goal. For example, the polar bear who appeared lonely was moving in the fall to a facility where she would have 'friends'. The animals all looked very healthy too.

Here are some of my favourites.

I have never seen a polar bear in the wild (and kind of hope I never do). I am always amazed at how big they are.

This guy's face broke my heart.

The Man's hand compared to a Gorilla

The giraffe

Doozy was a rescue. He had been bought as a pet and people decided he was too big (imagine that). I am glad the zoo was able to give him a more appropriate home.

Man vs. Elephant

It was this elephant's birthday so he got extra treats!

When it comes to zoo animals, the big cats are my favourite. I could spend the rest of my life watching them. I got to spend about 15 minutes watching this tiger play in the water trying to get a bucket. It was amazing. I heard someone who visits regularly say she had never seen him so active.

Once he had the bucket out he was done with it. So like a cat! He was just so beautiful!

This bear cracked me up. She (I am guessing as there were other bears around) held up her paws so she could get the water to shoot into her mouth.

Next week we will show off some more trip pictures. I think we will share the beach and rocks!

Mischief Monday - There Were No Treats - by Lee

Last week the Lady was trying to get a picture of me standing for some of the upcoming blog events. It was a beautiful late summer day, actually one of the nicest we have had all summer. Instead of standing, I enjoyed my time in the sun. That will teach her to always have treats when she has the camera.  I am not working without getting paid!

Silly Phod

If we are around and maybe not giving Phod the attention he wants, he will roll on to his back as if to say:

"My belly is here if someone wants to pet it!"

Travel Tuesday - Our Summer Vacation

Today we join Mayor Arty and Jakey in

If instead of being in jail, we got to go with our people to Oregon, this is what we would have done -

We would have run with the buffalo in the Calgary Airport during our 3 hour stop over.

We would have met some friends at the zoo.

A bear - it reminds us of KB's bears on her blog

A rhino - that is a bit scary

The giraffe, he is tall and could help us reach the squirrels

We would have made friends with a monkey.

We would have been very good in the car as we drove from Portland to Rockaway Beach.

We would have enjoyed walking on the beach by the ocean. We wouldn't have appreciated the rocks the way the Lady did (we will share those pictures later)

We would have loved all the good smells of walking in the woods.

Most importantly we would have cherished the time spent with friends.

Jakey, Arty, Flat Ruby, Flat Us, Stanley and Murphy

That is how we would have liked to spend our summer vacation.
