Mischief Monday - I Can Almost See the Humour

We step outside our dog life, to the human life to share this story with you today.

The scene: Lady is heading out the door to go and pick the Man up from the hospital (more about that below). She locks and closes the door between the house and garage to realize her keys are sitting on the shelf inside.

Plan A: The next door neighbours have a key, go get it.

Plan A fails: Neighbours aren't home.

Plan B: Put her snowshoes on (the snow is still waste deep in places), go around to the back of the house and "break in" (or pray the sneaky way, which we won't share here, is open)

Lee ad the Man a few weeks ago
Plan B: Thank goodness it works.

Now plan A is to get a key to hid in the garage so this doesn't happen again.

Perhaps the real mischief is the Man. Not that it is his fault but . . . .Short story: Man became very, very ill (thing worse stomach bug ever) Friday and ended up in the emergency room. He was there for 5 hours, pumped full of gravol and morphine and sent home with a list of things to watch for. Saturday around 11 the Man tells the Lady one of those things has happened, so Lady gets us all organized and is back at the hospital by 12. 7.5 hours later (don't worry, Lady left for a bit and drove the 30 minutes back to take care of the dogs), it was determined the Man had a bowel infection and was sent home with a bunch of prescriptions and follow up testing.

What was confirmed this weekend: Although Lady is a master problem solver, when Lady said "in sickness and in health" 87 million years ago, she clearly didn't mean it. She completely lacks empathy when it impacts her life and has absolutely no patience for others being sick, and she is a horrible nurse. She wishes it wasn't that way, but alas. So please send some sympathy to the very sick Man for having to deal with her and some POTP that he gets better soon and maybe some patience for the Lady.

Bless those of you who take care of very sick people in your lives. You are true angels.

Please forgive us if we aren't around as much as usual this week. Lady is going to have to take over all the household chores, try and keep the Man alive and continue to work, so she won't have as much time free time.

  2. I felt with you while reading about the "key moment" ... I had to smash a window once and hey that isn't as easy as it was once as we were kids, probably now they use armed glass or the stones are no longer what they were once :o) POTP to The Man, I hope the flu bug disappears without complications now and I cross my paws that this evil bug will not jump on your Lady now...

Well at least some humour was drawn out of the not so funny - there has been an outbreak of some nasty gastric stuff this side of the pond too. Not with me, but a couple of schools have been closed because of it!!! POTP winging its way... YAM xx

  5. Oh my! Being locked out is the worst! I am sending lots of POTP to the MAN since he isn't getting much from the LADY.

  6. Glad your Plan B worked. Butt don't feel bad, I think all humans have been locked out of their homes at least once in their lives.

  7. I din't think we even have a plan for what to do if we lock ourselves out. Something to think about.

I hope your husband is back on his feet without the bowel infection very soon. Pets on the head for Hailey and Zaphod...

  8. Oh no Phod and Hailey...we are so sorry about your man having a bad tummy infection. We will purr that the Lady finds her inner patience, that the Man's meds work quickly and that in two shake's of a cat's tail your routine is restored.

  9. We are so sorry to read this about your dad, our mom is a really good nurse, so maybe we should send her up your way to help, she has been nursing our dad now for 6 months, and she has only tried to smother him in his sleep 180 times, so we fink hers is doing pretty good. We hope things get back to normal at your house soon, p.s. mom has had to climb in a few windows at our house also. stella rose

  10. Momma used to ALWAYS be afraid she'd get locked out of the house. Now she has a key hidden in the garage and a keypad that will open the garage, so she doesn't have to be afraid of that!

  11. Hmmm she sounds like mom

  12. Poor Man I hate hearing he is so sick and has Nurse Ratchet to take care of him. My mom is not a good nurse either, when my human sister was little and she would upchuck so would mom. Mom was blessed that dad was around to clean up after them. Feel better Man.

    Aroo to you,

  13. We hope your Dad feels better real soon. There's been some nasty bugs going around in the community lately. Tell your Mom to try to get some rest so she doesn't get sick too.

  16. We hope Man gets to feeling better - Mom has been through the same issues and knows how terribly painful it can be - so we are sending healing thoughts his way

  17. OMD - we will send some POTP for the man right away and don't feel bad - our mom is kinda the same way. Comes from time a single mom and didn't have the time to be sick or feel sorry for herself when sick so she doesn't have much patience either BOL

  19. A message of support from Gail to Lady: when I was thrust into the unwelcome role of carer for my mother last year - after she suddenly became ill with what was eventually diagnosed as viral encephalitis - I suddenly and terrifyingly realised how unsuited I was to the role, being far, far too impatient. Luckily, and before I took my frustration out on my mother, I at least had the sense to recognise I could not cope alone and sought outside help. To my mind the true heroes are not necessarily those to whom being a carer comes naturally, rather it is the people who find it hard but find ways to cope. Please Lady, don't be too proud to ask for help if you're struggling with the situation. And wishing the Man a good recovery.
    Cheers, Gail.

  22. Oh dear, glad the key worked out. We pups are usually at home and the back door is open. We don't have anything worth stealing AND we wouldn't let anyone in anyway. SHE's not real good around sickness, but CAN rise to the cause when necessary (men are awful patients) so just let him rest quietly...and alone for as much as possible.

  23. OMGoodness! Lady has her hands full. Mom can empathize. She is not the nurse/nurturing type either - by a long shot! Prayers and happy healing thoughts are coming out to Man. He will be well soon.

  24. Both dogs and I are on your side. Get better quickly.

  25. We are sending POTP in full strength to you. I am the same way - I am a terrible nurse. I have thought the same thing about the "in sickness and health" part of my vow... so your comment made me giggle. I have a kindred spirit up there in Canada.

I hope your husband is on the mend and that you manage okay over the coming days.

  26. Hope your husband feels better soon! Sometimes I think it's harder to be the nurse than the sick person. Good luck to both of you!

  29. We've been missing reading blogs, and are back catching up. I'm so sorry to hear about "the Man" but we're sending our best healing vibes and POTP for him that he's better very, very soon! Also, I'm personally sending lots and lots of the needed vibes for "the Lady" because "this Lady" knows exactly how she feels -- You should have seen me when Carl fell off our barn and broke his ankle and the 2 surgeries that followed. But *I* made it, and so did Carl, and I know with all the good things being sent in your direction, "the Man and the Lady" will too!! Take care!!

  30. Crikey ..... poor Man!! I sure hope he gets better real soon. I hope you two are up to caring for him cause it doesn't sound as if Lady is going to be much use. Give him lots of sloppy kisses from me, aye?? Hope its not too long before he is up and at 'em again.

  31. Well oh MOUSES! Tell Lady it is O.K. Mom is a nurse and has been taking care of Gram and Gramps for months (since Sept.) as well as working full time and sometimes (often lately) wants to put a handful of pills in both of their coffee cups and have them take a couple day nap so she can get a break MOL! So even those that "can" have that lack of patience too :) Tell the Man that we hope that he gets better very soon because tummy stuff is not fun at all and we feel very sad for him and the Lady.

  32. My boys are sending POTP and I've got you in my prayers also.

I'm not good at dealing with sick people either. I can deal with it if you're sick for a day or two but if it's long term, I'm so over after a few days. It's a good thing my mom was the caregiver for my dad in his last days.

  33. OMD, Ma was ROTLMAO at your 'she didn't really mean it' for the sickness and in health!! BOL!!!! She thought that was hilarious, cause sometimes she sucks at takin' care of the peeps when they are sick...God Bless those who do it with grace.
Nows, tell your Pops that we are all sendin' lots and lots of POTP and healin' vibes and AireZens his way...and your MOms, lots of {{{hugs}}} and margaritas!!! ☺
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  34. UHOH......well, we're sorry to hear about the Man - hopefully he will be all fixed up soon. My Dad had a CT Scan yesterday as he has diverticulitis and they wanted to make sure that was ALL he had going on in there! So your Man and my Dad are "Bowel Buddies" (YUCK!!!!!) Let's hope the men are all fixed up soon and our Moms can NOT have to be nurses much longer.

    Hugs, Sammy

  37. I can totally relate to the Lady. My sister's hubby had similar issues and she was way better about it than I would have been....and I had to go take care of her dogs for them. I think some of us are just not natural nurturers?
Hope the man is better soon!!

  38. What the man is going through sounds quite painful. We hope he is doing much better!

Jan remembers the feeling of locking the keys in the house. And in an apt. Must be a human thing. We've never locked our keys in anywhere. Come to think of it, we don't have any keys. Think that might be why?
